About me
Tom Rooks is the USRowing Director of Safeguarding. Tom’s role is to reduce harm in our sport and assist members and member organizations to do the same. This includes being responsible for the continued development and implementation of the USRowing Safety Guidelines, management of the Safety Incident, Safe Sport, and Code of Conduct processes while serving as staff liaison to the Safety and Referee Committees, and USRowing event safety. Prior to joining USRowing, Tom was the Director of Rowing at Williamsburg Boat Club. In 2018, Tom retired after 22 years of Active-Duty service in the USCG. His work focused on search and rescue and maritime law enforcement as a Senior Chief Boatswains Mate. His tours included CGC Long Island and CGC Campbell, Station Jonesport, Station Bellingham, command of Coast Guard Station Houston, and as the School Chief for the Boatswain’s Mate “A” School. His previous coaching positions include Barnstable Crew, Gar-Field, Prince William Crew, and Boone Crew where he learned to row in High School.
